Angana P. Chatterji

Angana P. Chatterji is Co-chair, Political Conflict, Gender and People’s Rights Project at the Center for Race and Gender at University of California, Berkeley. A cultural anthropologist, her work focuses on political conflict; gender, power, violence; nationalism, minoritization, racialization; religion in the public sphere; and reparatory justice. Chatterji co-founded the People’s Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Kashmir (2008). She founded the People’s Tribunal on Religious Freedom in Odisha (2005). Chatterji taught at the University of San Francisco’s School of Education as Adjunct Professor (2013-2014). Chatterji served on the faculty in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at California Institute of Integral Studies, co-creating a graduate curriculum in postcolonial anthropology as Professor (2009-2011), Associate Professor (2000-2009), and Adjunct Professor (1997-2000). Chatterji has offered expert testimony at the UN, European Parliament, UK Parliament, and US Congress. Chatterji holds a BA in Political Science, an MA in Political Science, and a Ph.D. in the Humanities.
